  • Verbalize how a vascular access team, using LEAN thinking/Six Sigma methodology, created a best practice bundle with peripheral intravenous (PIV) insertions that resulted in less PIV complications and a cost savings.
  • Verbalize how a vascular access team uses standard work daily to improve workflow with rounding on patients to assure they have a safe, reliable, vascular access device.
  • Describe steps taken to incorporate MAGIC guidelines into order set to guide evidence-based practice.
  • Describe the impact a guideline based central line order set can have on central line utilization.

  • Discuss how the Clinical Nurse Specialist examines current state of available best practice alcohol withdrawal instruments and influences system change.
  • Report findings from phase I and phase II research studies examining the AWAT and implications that Clinical Nurse Specialists can consider for the acute care setting.
