Action Needed: Senate Bill 45

Senate Bill 45 mandates that nurses undergo training in trauma-informed care as a prerequisite for their licensure. Trauma-informed care focuses on acknowledging the extensive impact of trauma and fostering healing and recovery in caregiving environments. The bill, however, lacks clarity, particularly through recent amendments which obligate only nurses engaged in "direct patient care" to comply, without clearly defining what this entails. This ambiguity could lead to significant confusion about who must adhere to these new requirements.

This proposed legislation, while theoretically well-intentioned, unfortunately introduces unnecessary and cumbersome requirements for nurses, including APRNs.
